Church Life Together

Adults

Bible and Book Study

Opportunities for adult education include programs and studies throughout the year. We have studied with Adam Hamilton using many of his DVD classes. In the same way, we have studied with Biblical scholars such as Marcus Borg and Mickey Efird.

Now that we are proficient at zoom, we hold many of our educational opportunities on-line. For instance, in Janaury 2023, we will begin an on-line study of Philippians.

Each Lenten season and each summer, members of the congregation select a book for reading and discussion. Some of our recent selections include:

Christian Women's Fellowship (CWF)

Christian Women's Fellowship provides the women of WMCC the opportunity to share time and experiences together outside of church. Events have included lunches out, bowling excursions, community service events, a trip to Seagrove, NC for a day of touring pottery shops, and a Secret Sister gift exchange.

Women's Retreat

Every summer, our WMCC women (and a few friends) take an annual retreat in Black Mountain, NC at Christmount, our denomination’s retreat center. Each year follows a specific theme such as “Not Your Grandma’s Church Lady,” “Wake Up!” or “WMCC Women: We ‘Mary’ Up!” Retreat participants can expect:

Good food (and Cake Night)

Good conversation

Free time (to shop, hike, or nap)

Workshop time, and

A room with 2 queen beds, private bath, cable TV and wireless access

Our goal on the retreat is that we are all comfortable and have the opportunity for fellowship and a little spiritual growth.

Children and Youth

Our children and youth participate in the whole, intergenerational life of the church, including our worship, education, outreach, and fellowship ministries. Our children and youth are especially beloved participants in our Sunday morning worship services and often have leadership roles.

If you are a family with children and/or youth, we would love the opportunity to work with you to incorporate your family and your family's needs and gifts into the life of our church!

Logos

Logos meets on Wednesdays from 5:30 - 7:30 pm during the school year. Children and youth participate in recreation, worship arts, and Bible study. All are welcome for a family-style dinner.

Camp Caroline

Each summer, WMCC children and youth from kindergarten to 12th grade travel to Camp Caroline in Arapahoe, NC to worship, learn, and enjoy fellowship in a beautiful outdoor setting with campers and counselors from DOC churches throughout the region. Fundraising events throughout the year allow the church to provide financial support for all camp attendees. Middle and high school students are also invited to weekend retreats during the school year.

Christmas Open House

So often, when people visit WMCC, they say, "I've driven by so many times and wondered what it looked like inside!" We hear this kind of comment often in December. So, this year, we will host an Open House on December 18th from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. This is chance to see the decorations, enjoy a cup of Christmas cheer and a cookie, and visit with neighbors. Please join us!
