Special Worship Services
Ash Wednesday begins the Season of Lent. Our Ash Wednesday service is a reflective service including the imposition of ashes on the forehead (taken from the burning of the previous year's Palm Sunday palm fronds).
"Maundy" is derived from the Latin word meaning "commandment" and recalls Jesus' new commandment from his teaching in the upper room: "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another." Our Maundy Thursday service relives Jesus' last evening through meditative scripture and song, communion, and prayer.
On Good Friday, the most solemn date on the Christian calendar, we remember the Crucifixion of Christ. On this day, we offer an intimate noon service in which we hear the story of the crucifixion and the last words of Christ. It is time for silence and prayer.
Blessing of the Animals
This is a special outdoor service within the fenced playground Area and is a great opportunity to acknowledge the importance of animals in our lives and to remind us of our role as stewards of all God's creatures. This type of service was inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. We join in song, read scripture and hear stories from our own animal lovers. We also take up an offering to benefit a local animal rescue group. Each animal receives a special blessing from the minister.
Hanging of the Greens
This service marks the beginning of the Advent season as we prepare our sanctuary. The Youth serve as our worship leaders and we actually do 'hang the greens,' by hanging our garlands and our wreaths, and by placing the poinsettias in the sanctuary and lighting the Chrismon gree. We also have special music from several of our talented members. We close with communion.
Service of Healing
This is a reflective service of worship and is geared toward those who have had a difficult year, those who have experienced a loss, and those who for
whatever reason are feeling "dis-eased" over the holidays. We hope that it will meaningful for all who take the time to attend. WMCC is the sole sponsor of this
worship service but we are inviting the community at large.
On Christmas Eve, we gather at 9:00 PM for a service of lessons, carols, and communion. We conclude with candle light and the singing of a familiar Christmas carol.
