Outreach
In January of 2008, the Wilson's Mills Christian Church Board made an historic decision. They faithfully decided to tithe the church's income. Biblically, the tithe represents the 'first fruits' and 10% of what we receive. So, 10% of what we receive in this church will be given to outreach that supports our church mission statement which is "to reach out in ways that bring both people from the surrounding community and within the church into a relationship with Jesus Christ resulting in faithful, passionate discipleship."
In the past two years, many organizations and individuals have benefited from our outreach efforts. They include the following:
We also made food donations to the Johnston County Food Bank, the Area Ministries Food Closet and the Salvation Army.
In addition, our church responds to local needs including assisting those with no financial means to heat their homes; providing food for those in crisis; financially assisting those in danger of losing their electricity, and donating school supplies to students in need at Wilson's Mills Elementary School.
Further, we participate in the Backpack Buddies program at Wilson's Mills Elementary School by donating canned goods to be used over the weekends for families in need. We work with a local nursing home to provide visitation and companionship to their residents, and in the Disciples' tradition, we continue to try to reach out with other area churches to meet the needs of community recognizing that we are all part of the greater Christian Church.
